April

This is a watercolor painting I’ve been working on this past winter. It is entitled April. I painted it from photographs I took last spring of my Rhododendron shrub. As luck would have it, I found a great 3-layer white wooden frame that sets it off perfectly.

Great Blue

The following image is one of the commissioned watercolor paintings I’ve been working on this winter. It’s entitled Great Blue and I loved painting it. It’s rare that a painting turns out exactly as you envisioned it in your mind, so when it does… it’s a great thing!

Thurman Pond

Diverging from my usual closeups, I created this landscape watercolor painting with as few layers of paint as possible, instead of my usual multiple layers of paint. Thurman Pond is a beautiful, peaceful body of water in the Adirondacks, that I was lucky enough to vacation at this past summer.

Pencil Paintings

In September of 2012, I took a colored pencil class with Cynthia Knox. The butterfly pencil painting is what I did in her class and gave to my daughter for her birthday. The technique is to use very tiny circular pencil strokes and create layer upon layer of color, along with burnishing between layers. It is extremely time consuming, but the end results look like an oil painting. The Dragonfly, that I did for my son, is a mixed media painting done with watercolor, colored pencil and ink.

Kayaks Along the Hudson

This is a painting I just did for some of my kayaking buddies. The painting is based on a photo of our kayaks on the shore of the Hudson River, up in Lake Luzerne, NY.

Water Works

My love of kayaking has inspired me to create many watercolor paintings to express the tranquility and beauty I see on the water. Working from photographs, I paint layer upon layer of transparent watercolor paint to create the vivid colors in the paintings. As you can see, I fell in love with lily pads and consider these to be some of my best work.
