All in a Line

This watercolor painting is entitled All in a Line. The title is not just referring to the geese, who so politely lined up for me to snap their picture, but for the layers and rows of scenery behind them. The sky, trees, bushes, reeds, shrubs, lily pads, water and geese created lines of color and texture across the landscape. The finished painting is 12 x 36 inches long.

Final paintings

I’ve just finished the last two paintings for my upcoming show in November. The first watercolor painting is entitled Tide Pool. It was based on a photograph I took while in Maine this summer. When the tide washed into shore, it created wonderful little tide pools with iridescent green seaweed and colored rocks.

The second painting is called Yellow Petals. This painting was based on another photograph I took, while kayaking on a beautiful stretch of the Housatonic River in Massachusetts.

Ancient Oak

This watercolor painting, entitled Ancient Oak, is based on a photograph I took while kayaking down the Anthony Kill, in Round Lake, NY. This giant, old stump made a wonderful sharp reflection on an early evening paddle.

I’m very pleased to let everyone know that my painting, Three Rocks, was accepted into the juried Sights and Sounds exhibition at The Art Center in Saratoga Springs, NY. The show highlights the sights and sounds of the Saratoga region. The two month show will be on display August 2nd – September 27th.

The King’s Garden

I recently spotted the most amazing flower while visiting The King’s Garden in Ticonderoga, NY. I believe it is called a Parrot Tulip. Taking a break from watercolors this past month, I decided to “paint” this tulip with colored pencils. This colored pencil painting has 6-8 layers of pencil on each section. I photographed my painting every couple of days while working on it, in order to show the building of color.

And here is the final result.

New paintings

I’ve finished a couple of new paintings this week. The first is entitled Rocks and was loosely based on a photograph taken in the Adirondack Mountains.

This second watercolor is entitled Basking in the Sun. I caught this turtle sun bathing on the Anthony Kill last summer.

Thank you!

Many thanks to Gina Michelin and Chris Alexander for nominating me for the Saratoga County Artists in Action program as April’s artist. And thanks to everyone who attended my presentation and demonstration today. You were a great audience and hopefully I didn’t sound as nervous as I felt! I will post my demonstration painting in a couple of weeks, once it’s completed.
